Dashashwamedh Ghat

Dashashwamedh Ghat is one of the most famous and oldest ghats (a series of steps leading down to a body of water) located on the banks of the river Ganges in Varanasi, India. It is considered one of the most sacred spots in the city and attracts numerous devotees and tourists throughout the year.

The name "Dashashwamedh" means "the place where ten horses were sacrificed", as it is believed that Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, performed a special sacrifice (yajna) at this ghat. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva also descended on this ghat after defeating the demon Trpurasura.

Every evening, a grand Ganga aarti (worship ritual) takes place at the Dashashwamedh Ghat, which is a major attraction for visitors. Priests perform this ceremony with incense, lamps, and conch shells, while devotees offer flowers and prayers to the river Ganges. The sight of thousands of earthen lamps being floated on the river during the aarti is a truly mesmerizing experience.

Dashashwamedh Ghat is also a popular place for boat rides along the Ganges, allowing visitors to take in the beautiful views of the ghat and the surrounding temples and palaces. Many pilgrims also take a dip in the holy river at this ghat as they believe it washes away their sins and purifies their souls.
