Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the most sacred and revered temples in India. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located in the ancient city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The temple is also known as the Golden Temple because of the gold plating on its dome and spire. The history of the temple dates back several centuries.
The original temple was destroyed and rebuilt several times throughout history, with the current structure being built in 1780 by the Maratha monarch, Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore.
The temple complex comprises several small temples and shrines, and it is spread over a vast area. The main shrine of the temple houses the Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva, which is considered to be one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India.
